Customizing Your ESA Investment: 2020 Membership Updates
Recently, the ESA Board of Directors voted to sunset the association’s state chapter program, now allowing members from all states the choice to customize their ESA membership investment to join the state association, the national association — or both as a member sees fit. This change will take effect for all 2020 ESA Memberships.
MEMBERSHIP UPDATES
Under the current chapter affiliation agreement, a member residing in a chapter state (27 states as of 2019) must join BOTH the state and national associations, paying more in dues each year, than members in states without a chapter.

The decision to modernize the association’s relationship with state associations is consistent with evolutions throughout the trade association industry. According to Marketing General’s Membership Marketing Benchmarking Report, only 7% of trade associations with chapters have contingent membership, consistent with ESA’s current structure — 73% of the respondents did not report having chapters at all.
In the spirit of providing all members equal access to ESA — and to choices that work best for their businesses, ESA will open its doors to more competitive dues for members across the nation in 2020.
“We take pride in being your connection to the electronic security and life safety industry,” says president, Chris Mosley. “We strive each day to deliver benefits to help your company grow, succeed and run most efficiently. And we’re working harder than ever to provide the most powerful benefits at the most competitive rates no matter what state you reside in.”
“You customize all of your purchases,” Mosley continues. “It’s only fair you’re able to customize your ESA investment as well.”
