Raising the Bar: The Leadership Legacy of Kevin Stone
By Merlin Guilbeau, IOM Executive Director CEO of ESA
As the Electronic Security Association (ESA) continues to build momentum and expand its impact across the security and life safety industry, it is important to recognize the leadership that has helped shape this progress. With deep appreciation, we acknowledge outgoing Chairman Kevin Stone for his extraordinary service and commitment to ESA and its members.
Kevin’s journey as a volunteer leader began in 2021 when he joined the Board of Directors. He quickly distinguished himself as a thoughtful and strategic leader, serving as Treasurer, Chairman-Elect, and ultimately Chairman of the Board from 2024 to 2026. Throughout his tenure, Kevin brought a steady, disciplined approach that helped guide ESA through a period of growth, alignment, and increasing industry influence.
Under Kevin’s leadership, ESA achieved meaningful financial and operational progress. The organization strengthened its commitment to transparency through successful audits and reviews, improved cash flow management, and exceeded financial performance expectations. Structural decisions, including the consolidation of the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) into ESA, streamlined operations and reinforced alignment across key initiatives.
Membership growth also accelerated, with record new member additions in 2024 and 2025 and continued momentum into 2026. The addition of Pye-Barker as ESA’s largest national member reflects the association’s growing value to leading organizations across the industry. Kevin understood that a stronger ESA begins with a more engaged and expanding membership base, and he prioritized growth that increased both reach and relevance.
Workforce development remained a central focus. ESA expanded training programs, secured new partnerships, and launched apprenticeship initiatives in collaboration with the New Jersey Electronic Life Safety Association. These efforts reflect a long-term commitment to strengthening the talent pipeline and ensuring the industry is prepared for future demands.
ESX also experienced measurable success during Kevin’s tenure, including increased attendee satisfaction and strong rebook revenue growth. Strategic partnerships and improved execution have positioned the event for continued expansion and impact.
ESA’s voice in advocacy grew stronger as well. The association achieved a significant federal legal victory against the FTC’s Negative Option Rule, supported the passage of protective legislation, and advanced initiatives such as the SECURE Act across multiple states. ESA also continued its efforts to educate and engage members on critical issues impacting the industry. These accomplishments reinforce ESA’s role as a trusted and effective advocate at both the state and federal levels.
A defining element of Kevin’s leadership was his ability to bring together respected industry leaders to serve alongside him. His collaborative approach strengthened the Board and elevated ESA’s governance. We recognize the contributions of leaders like Scott Elkins and Doug Bassett, whose service alongside Kevin helped guide the organization through this important period.
Partnerships across the industry also deepened, with continued collaboration alongside organizations such as TMA, SIA, and SIAC. At the same time, ESA’s insurance program, Security America Risk Purchasing Group, experienced strong growth, further reflecting the organization’s expanding value to members.
Perhaps most importantly, Kevin leaves ESA stronger, more aligned, and better positioned for the future. His leadership has shaped not only what the organization has accomplished, but how it operates and how it will continue to grow.
Kevin, thank you for your leadership, your steady guidance, and your commitment to ESA’s mission. We also extend our appreciation to Jack Doyle and the team at Doyle Security Systems, as well as Kevin’s family, for their support throughout his chairmanship.
On a personal note, I am especially grateful for Kevin’s mentorship and friendship. His impact on this organization and the industry will be felt for years to come.
