We all do it. There are some items on our to do list, that quite frankly, we don’t want to do. We push them off. We procrastinate — postponing to the point that we impede progress. I heard a great quote a few weeks ago that inspired three tips that I would like to share with you on how I power through procrastination. We all do it. Charles Swindoll said, “The habit of always putting off an experience until you can afford it, or until the time is right, or until you know how to do it is one of the greatest burglars of joy. Be deliberate, but once you’ve made up your mind–jump in.”
So let’s jump in.
Tip 1: Dedicate yourself to good time management habits.
It may be a good idea to make a detailed time schedule before you get started on your work. Planning and project management is a good method for holding yourself accountable. Designate time increments for each of your projects to keep yourself on a good pace, making sure that these times are realistic to the task at hand.
There are even a few project management websites that you can use. Some really great ones that I’ve personally used are 5PM, Trello and DaPulse. Plus they’re all mobile and desktop friendly.
An even better tip: if you’re focusing on daily projects, do your most intense, tedious and time-sensitive tasks whenever you have the most energy and when you’re the most productive.
Many people are the most productive in the morning, or the first part of their working day. After you get the most important projects done, you should then focus on what remains during the second part of your day. You know, after you’ve eaten lunch and you just want to curl up in a ball and take a nap.
