Association Invests in Philanthropic Initiative for Over 20 Years, Recognizing Work by Nation’s Public Safety Officials
Irving, Texas, (June 11, 2018) — This year, the Electronic Security Association and its participating state chapters have awarded over $67,000 in scholarships to college-bound children of first responders throughout the nation. The trade association, comprised of electronic security and life safety installation, integration and monitoring professionals, was supported by COPS Monitoring and Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) in 2018, to award $13,500 to the program’s top two applicants.
Since its inception, the ESA Youth Scholarship Program has awarded over $600,000 in scholarship funds to children of police officers and firefighters. ESA, at the national level along with grassroots efforts within its state chapters, have worked diligently on this philanthropic initiative for over 20 years.
Naomi Hess of Maryland received the top honor with a first-place scholarship of $10,000 and Noah Meyer of Nevada was awarded $3,500 for second place.
“Public safety officials across our country serve our communities selflessly,” says Angela White, ESA President. “These men and women deserve gratitude beyond the recognition we can give them. On, behalf of the Electronic Security Association, it is an honor to be able to give back to the outstanding students of our everyday heroes. We are in awe of these incredible families and we are glad to support them.”
First place winner Naomi Hess is a 2018 graduate of River Hill High School where she excels in both academic and extracurricular activities, while simultaneously taking an active role in her community. Hess held a cumulative 4.0 GPA at the time of her scholarship application. Hess’ extracurricular activities include an internship as a student teacher at her own high school and co-founding “River Hill Girl Up,” a campus organization that supports girls’ education in developing countries.
Naomi's father, Steven Hess, is the Deputy Fire Chief for the BWI Airport Fire and Rescue Department in Clarksville, Maryland.
“My dad’s dedication to helping others has made me appreciate the value of community service,” Hess says. “Because of my father, I know I want to devote my career to helping others. I vow to do my very best to emulate his kindness, leadership, optimism and bravery.”
Second place winner, Noah Meyer, is a 2018 graduate of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he maintained straight A’s and a 4.0 GPA.
Meyer was treasurer of his engineering club, participated in his school’s orchestra with the cello as his instrument of choice, and received numerous musical and academic awards during his high school tenure.
Noah’s father, Joseph Meyer is an eleven-year-veteran firefighter for the City of North Las Vegas Fire Department,.
“My father often puts his own health and well-being at risk to save the lives of others,” Noah says. “He has received many awards for his brave actions, most recently the Yaphet Miller Valor Award for saving a woman out of the second story window of a burning building and a Certificate of Commendation for his Outstanding Commitment and Dedication that helped save the lives of three citizens.”
In addition to these two overall winners, state-level scholarships have been awarded throughout the country.
