The electronic security and life safety industry presents a wealth of opportunities for today’s high school graduates. Advancements in the industry have placed it in the fast-moving, high-tech arena. Jobs in the industry are interesting, challenging, pay well and are recession proof. They also provide a solid career path and the opportunity to make a difference.
The Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center (HCCTC) is ensuring that area students are prepared to take advantage of these opportunities by partnering with the Electronic Security Association’s National Training School (NTS) to offer the following courses:
Certified Alarm Technician (CAT) Level 1
Fire Alarm Installation Methods (FAIM)
Electronic Access Control (EAC)
Video Systems Technologies (VST)
“We are excited about this partnership and the opportunity to help prepare high school students for a career in our industry,” says Chris Mosley, president of ESA. “NTS is the leading provider of classroom and online courses, as well as certifications, for the evolving electronic security and life safety industry. We are hoping to initiate similar education partnerships with high schools and vocational schools across the nation.”
According to Crist Fellman, public health and safety instructor at HCCTC, the NTS courses will be incorporated into the Public Health and Safety Program which includes, Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Corrections, Private Security and Homeland Security.
“This partnership will open new doors for HCCTC students, enabling them to embark upon a career in a high-demand industry that provides almost unlimited growth potential,” says Fellman.
Local security integrator, Select Security, a long-time member of ESA, has donated equipment to help provide hands-on training for HCCTC students. Select Security is headquartered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is one of the largest and most respected security and life safety solution providers in the markets it serves.
Select Security President Steve Firestone has been instrumental developing the association’s “Get Into Security” initiative, an innovative workforce development program.
“We have a true passion for and commitment to workforce development,” says Firestone, who also serves as secretary of ESA. “We want to guarantee the students at HCCTC have access to the courses and resources they need to be successful in our industry.”
