AIREF Golf Classic Begins Its Second Decade with a Day of Fun in the Las Vegas Sun Security industry foundation draws 111 industry professionalsfor major fundraising event Irving, Texas (April 2, 2014) — The 11th annual Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) Golf Classic teed off in Las Vegas on April Fools’ Day, but anyone who spends the day playing golf while raising money for an important cause is hardly a fool. The tournament is entering its second decade as the sole fundraising event for AIREF (www.AIREF.org), a tax-exempt foundation supported by the Electronic Security Association (ESA). It serves as the research arm of the electronic security industry, funding critical research and educational programs that benefit the industry and enhance public safety.This year, 111 industry professionals converged on April 1 at the beautiful Revere Golf Club for the pre-ISC West networking event. They played the Lexington Course, which has a challenging layout and a spectacular view of the city, in conditions that were clear but windy.It was the first tournament for two new co-chairs – Keith Baird of Honeywell and Mike Harrison of Hillcrest Davidson – who brought their own brand of excitement to the event this year. For example, golf entertainer and long-drive specialist Nyle Pruitt made his debut at the tournament with a fun and memorable program for appreciative participants, and raised $4,675 for the foundation as a result.“The tournament is always enjoyable, and it continues to provide significant proceeds for the foundation,” said AIREF Treasurer Jamie Orvis, owner of Security Solutions. “For this we are extremely thankful. The generosity of our industry colleagues is inspirational and rewarding.”The event followed a “shamble” format, a combination of scramble and best ball in which teams of golfers were divided into two tiers. Tier One Low-Gross went to the Honeywell team of Keith Baird, Mike Matson, Joe Nuccio and Bob Riccucci, with a net score of 48. Tier Two Low Gross went to the team of David Koenig and Dorian Kruse of Capital Fire & Security, along with Andy Wilson of the Connecticut Alarm and System Integrators Association (CASIA) and Southwest Dispatch’s Ty Davis, with a net score of 56.A post-play reception featured tournament awards, prizes and presentations. Winners included Don Faybrick of Perennial Software (longest drive, 16th hole); Troy Iverson of AvantGuard Monitoring Centers (closest to the line, and also closest to the pin, 17th hole); Mike Matson of Matson Alarm (closest to the pin, 14th hole); Paulo Piscatelli, a guest of DMC (closest to the pin, 8th hole); and Mark Sandler, playing for SPP Advisors (closest to the pin, 13th hole). The always popular 50/50 raffle was won by Dan Perry of Monitronics.ESA wishes to thank the event’s major sponsors, including Honeywell Security, which was the Morris F.
