Workforce shortages within the industry have been a cited concern in trade media for the past few years. As the number of technical job postings increase, ESA’s National Training School (NTS) is tackling the issue head on, aiming to expose the industry to high school CTE (career and technical education) programs by providing it’s very first high school partnership program in Pennsylvania, with hopes to expand the initiative throughout the US.

Recently, changes were made to local Louisiana regulation with R.S. 40:1664.16(C). A major issue we as an industry have had challenges with include local municipalities passing ordinances that charge alarm fines to the companies rather than the customer. Local ESA chapters and SIAC have fought tirelessly for years to combat these issues.

If you glanced at the news lately you probably know that President Trump made another selection for the Supreme Court to replace the retiring Anthony Kennedy. While listening to or readings stories on Justice Kavanaugh you may have heard the phrase “administrative state” as an issue that worries or consoles people, depending on their perspective, about the direction the court is going when it comes to “administrative” law.

States continued to approve legislation in June that will provide, in some cases, funding to improve school security through electronic security systems, video surveillance and access control. Unfortunately, some states can only find the means to study the issue. But, the hope is those states that took a more deliberative approach will eventually use the findings to appropriate security measures that will help protect children.

"Taxation without representation!" was the battle cry in America’s 13 Colonies, which were forced to pay taxes to England's King George III despite having no representation in the British Parliament. As dissatisfaction grew, British troops were sent in to quell the early movement toward rebellion. Repeated attempts by the Colonists to resolve the crisis without military conflict proved fruitless.

ESA’s National Training School has updated requirements for obtaining its most popular certifications, including the Certified Alarm Technician Level II (CAT II), the Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level II (CFAT) and the Certified Fire Alarm Designer (CFAD) Level III. The changes allow for certifications to meet the evolving requirements of many states and make them more valuable for industry professionals.
