Summer is here, which means homeowners nationwide will soon be targets of deceptive door knockers trying to con them into switching their alarm service. Last week, ADT, ESA, TMA, and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal joined the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana for its Deceptive Sales Practice News Conference.

During the conference two victims stood to share how they were approached  by sales reps attempting to con them out of their ADT contracts.

Merlin Guilbeau, Executive Director and CEO of the Electronic Security Association spoke about the security industry now being in the top 25 of BBB complaints rather than the top 10 roughly five years ago.

“While I don’t think it is just these press conferences that have reduced the number of complaints, I do believe with the help of the BBB and regulators combined with the efforts of TMA and ESA, we have been able to educate both consumers and industry players about the effects that those who mislead and misrepresent themselves have on the industry,” he says.
