The Electronic Security Association (ESA) has made a strong commitment to our armed forces by selecting the Wounded Warrior Project as a recipient for ESA Gives Back, the association’s charitable and philanthropic program. The selection was announced during the Electronic Security Expo in Nashville on June 25 – 28. Conference attendees promptly rallied behind the cause, pledging more than $20,000 in contributions, both during and after the conference. Contributions were made by ESA members, association leaders, industry professionals and staff.ESA Gives Back is dedicated to engaging association leadership, members and staff in supporting charitable and philanthropic initiatives like the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project was selected not only for its worthiness as a cause, but also as a way to honor Dom D’Ascoli, ESA’s immediate past president and a U.S. Army veteran. "One of the reasons this charity is special to us is that it is just one way we can honor our current/outgoing president,” said ESA President John Knox. "As a veteran himself, Dom is a proud supporter of our country’s military heroes, particularly those who have been injured. By supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, this is one way we can say thank you to Dom for his many contributions to our association.”Established in 2003, the Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. There have been more than 42,000 service people injured during military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thousands of Wounded Warriors and their caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs and services.It isn’t the first time that ESA Gives Back has provided a boost to the Wounded Warrior Project. During the holidays in 2011, ESA put a special spin on the common practice of sending gifts to sponsors and other friends and supporters of the association. ESA chose instead to make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in the name of every individual or company who would normally have received a typical gift. The "gift” came in the form of a card letting the recipient know that a donation had been made by ESA on their behalf.ESA is accepting donations for Wounded Warrior Project through July 31, 2012.
