Since the beginning of the year, ESA began following bills unlike any seen in recent history. We mentioned the numerous occupational licensing bills that would require oversight and review of all licenses. We also noted several bills that would expand union influence in some states, while others seem to be gravitating away from union control and toward a “right to work” model.

ESA’s National Training School just added Michigan to its list of states that recognize its training for licensing. Michigan’s Bureau of Construction Codes, Electrical Division for Fire Alarm Specialty Technician Candidates has approved NTS’ CFAT Level II as an alternative to NICET.

This month was very busy on several different issue areas. States continue to file well-funded school security legislation. We also saw some supportive bills that will prohibit local jurisdictions from fining alarm companies and/or forcing them to collect registration fees from end-users.
