2018 AIREF Golf Classic Celebrates 15 Years of Golf and Giving

15th Annual Event Raises Vital Funds for Research and Education in the Electronic Security and Life Safety Industry

(Las Vegas, Nevada)  — The AIREF Golf Classic event was designed to allow industry golfers the opportunity to support vital research and education initiatives, while enjoying the sport and networking. This year the event scored on both accounts.

On April 10, leaders in our industry gathered at the Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas to generously fund AIREF’s education and research initiatives.

Perfect conditions prevailed on the Lexington Course for the nearly 80 registered players – and one lonesome coyote – participating in this fun-fundraiser. Golf co-chairs, Keith Baird of Honeywell and Mike Harrison of Hillcrest Davidson, were once again the catalysts for this socially competitive event.

The tournament featured tech-savvy electronic live golf scoring, which accelerated the friendly play on the course. It also allowed for golfers to return to the clubhouse to view a leaderboard, which revealed the winners automatically.

2018 Winners
The Low-Gross Win went to the team from Hillcrest Davidson and Anixter: Mike Harrison, Randy Blunt, John Villegas and Paul Baeza, who came in with an unbelievable net score of 53.

Runner-up honors went to the team from NorthStar: Dan Noble, Rob Harris, Nick Nelson and Nick Perry, who came in with a net score of 54.

Third place went to the team from Honeywell: Keith Baird, Mike Matson, Joe Nuccio, Bob Rucci and Mike Matson Jr., who scored a low 58.

Each player on the winning teams received American Express gift cards for $300, $200 and $100, respectively. The event followed a shamble format, a combination of scramble and best ball.

Jonathan Beach, from Honeywell Fire, hit the jackpot of $2,120.

“The AIREF foundation is fortunate for the historically strong support of our industry colleagues. Their spontaneous willingness to participate in this fundraiser, which supports our research projects, is gratifying,” says AIREF treasurer, Jamie Orvis, owner of Security Solutions Inc. “Simply stated, our successful sponsors lead the way to AIREF’s success.”

The post play reception at Revere showcased tournament awards, prizes and presentations, saluting winners and sponsors. The Revere canyon course provided a challenge for golfers and delivered a breathtaking panoramic view of Las Vegas and its surrounding mountains.

The AIREF Golf Classic tournament serves as AIREF’s sole fundraising event, allowing the foundation to support critical research and educational programs that benefit the security industry and enhance public safety.

Thank you to our major sponsors: Honeywell Security, the Morris F. Weinstock Sponsor; ISC West and ANIXTER, Sara E. Jackson Sponsors. Premium sponsors included Altronix, Security America Risk Purchasing Group, Syncomm Management Group, Potter Electric and DSC. Four Hole ‘N One contests were backed by Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, Perennial Software, Wayne Alarm and Security Solutions, Inc. Contributions from donating companies for Hole sponsorships round out patronage on the greens. Always anticipated is the player goodie bag featuring tournament take-aways such as golf towels, ball markers, Sharpies and club cleaners. The golf course still permits cigars, so thank you USA Central for stogies and matches.

Half way through its second decade, this golf classic continues to demonstrate the on-going prosperity for our industry.

“Next year plan to be part of this stellar event!” said Mike Keegan, of Magnasphere.
